WEALTHY BUT WORTHLESS

If, God forbid, India and Pakistan come to nuclear fisticuffs, I'm wondering if the controlling governments have the same installations as America and Britain. Deep reinforced-concrete bunkers containing fuel generators, air-purifiers and, no doubt, cinemas and shopping precincts, not to mention the most awesome wine cellars!

Of course, these would only be available to the ruling elite. The new political classes. I can imagine, once their families and friends are nicely ensconced and the outside world is locked out, they can busy themselves with red buttons and vaporise each others' populations with impunity. I am morbidly amused at the prospect of these people later emerging from said bunkers and finding that there's nobody and nothing left to tax, not even a tree!

The prospect of no offices, housing, engineering, gardeners, road-sweepers, dustmen and chauffeurs, or any lackey come to that. Those politicians would be useless and utterly lost and would realize they had saved their worthless hides only to find that they had always been surplus to requirements!

I believe the only people that want war are deranged; self-absorbed; obsessed and power-mad megalomaniacs who will never have to stand on the front line and will always be cushioned from the consequences of their actions. Tony Blair springs to mind. When asked, in an interview, how many British troops had died in Afghanistan and Iraq he made it all too obvious that he didn't know but replied that he thought it was around eight or nine hundred! Q.E.D.

George W Bush & Tony Blair - Batman & Robin - hardly a dynamic duo, ignited a Moslem fuse that is like Greek fire: it cannot be put out and has plunged this tiny planet back into the dark ages, the only difference being that we no longer use bows and arrows. Instead we have weapons of mass destruction. They are a pair of utterly unfunny clowns who, between them, have already devastated thousands of lives, soon to become millions.

But, I guess, the perks of their business - more houses than they can count if John McCain is typical: he didn't appear to know how many properties he owned when asked directly! - and more money than they could shake a stick at.

Upon their retirement they have the luxury of 24-hour bodyguards for life - there to protect them from rightful retribution, no doubt.
